13 Oct: Delphi

So it's our last day of touring in Greece and we left the best for last: Ancient Delphi.

Ok maybe not the best but significant in Greek history nevertheless.

It's a few hours bus trip up north and we woke up early to get to the bus station.

We were deceived by the bright and cheery sun and decided to ditch the other clothing and travel light.

Bad idea.

Once we alighted the bus, the cold wind slapped us for underestimating the October winds. We asked for directions and cuddled up and moved as one body towards Delphi. We snug into the first kebab place we saw and hope to wait it out. But time was running short so we did take away instead. Notice that all of that was not documented in pictures as we were both concerned with not dying from the cold at that point in time.

yum...

The cats wanted a piece of the action as well.

IMG_6587-Edit
i'll stare you into feeding me!

IMG_6596-Edit

The cats have terrible eyesights. Shuyi had to point to them where she dropped the food. If she had her way, she would feed everything to the cats.

there la dum dum!

After a short walk, we spotted the museum but decided that we should leave it for later as we would need to come this way again. At the entrance of Delphi, we asked for directions and enquired about the entry fee.

'No charge', said the lady.

We couldn't believe our ears! So the stewpid Seafood King temple I have to pay and Ancient Delphi is free?

Later we would find out the reason.... Remember when I mentioned that the strong October winds would affect us? It wasn't on the sea in the form of delayed ferries. Delphi is free because the winds were so strong that there is a valid risk of falling rocks. So they cordoned off half of Ancient Delphi.

IMG_6659-Edit
so wind blowing is 'technical'

You would have think that after centuries of blowing wind, there shouldn't be much loose rocks left to tumble down right? Well apparently they restocked it or something. Great.

one step for mankind...

IMG_0405-Edit

On with the program.

As the expensive and heavily accented tour guide at Acropolis broke our budget a little, we bought a Delphi guidebook this time round instead. Thank god we did. Imagine paying the tour guide and he only does half the job due to the wind.

IMG_6614-Edit
buying the guide don't mean we have the time to read it

IMG_6735-Edit

Further down, we saw the Tholos.

IMG_6741-Edit

Private joke. Don't ask.

IMG_6743-Edit

Somehow shuyi thought that this pose is very Athenian/Greek mythology.

IMG_6756-Edit

And another one.

IMG_6764-Edit

IMG_6778-Edit

IMG_6758-Edit

We met this French couple at the Tholos. You can see from the red pants that he is French. Or italian. We had a short conversation, help each other with phototaking and parted ways.

These 2 brothers. Kleobis and Biton... When their mother's ox took MC when it was supposed to drag her up the mountain to see her Goddess, instead of calling for cab, they took it upon themselves to pull their mother up the mountain instead.

Then they died. hahahahaha.

I'm not joking. Read about it here.

The day was close to and end and we headed back. The wind slapped us all the way to the bus stop.

Shuyi was fascinated by these little shrines dotted along the way.

IMG_6883-Edit

We got on the last bus back to Athens. By the time we reached, it was already dark. For the last night, we went back to our favourite place for dinner.

IMG_6885-Edit

Every single night we were in Athens, we would make a 2 km trek back to the hotel. Ok i honestly don't know how far but it was at least 1 km. Anyway, for the last night, we hopped on and off the bus (without paying of course) instead.

We ended up on the other side of the road and had to use the underpass which was covered in graffiti.

So we bust our some funky moves.

IMG_0548-Edit

IMG_0552-Edit

This is Lido Palace. From the looks of it, you know that it is a strip joint. What was interesting was, the dude standing in front of the establishment asked us to go in EVERY SINGLE NIGHT. How desperate is he? Asking a couple to go to a strip club? What kind of conversation are we supposed to have inside?

IMG_0563-Edit

Tomorrow, we fly home!
