12 Oct: Sounion

Staying at a 5 Star hotel means that there is a pool at the hotel. Having a hotel at the pool implies that you have already paid for it. This pretty much means that we must at least take a dip in the pool to get our worth (not that we paid full price).

So we forced ourselves to wake up early and headed to the pool area. Both of us, being terribly afraid of the cold spent a good 15 minutes inching our asses into the water.

Here is us outside our room after the swim. I placed the camera on the table and put the timer on. Shuyi waited for the last moment to try and rip my towel off my ass.

打抢 阿!

Today, we take things slow and head to Cape Sounion. Cape Sounion is 63km south east of Athens, at the very southern tip of the Attica peninsula. There is basically nothing there but the ruins of the Temple of Poseidon i.e. 海鲜王. You know, the mofo who gave the Greeks salt water rather than calamari. Anyway, Sounion is supposed to have one of the best sunsets in Greece. The other being Oia in Santorini.

strange place for a nap

We had lunch at MacDonalds and boarded the bus (which was late) towards Sounion.

Being the off season and Cape Sounion being a god damn boring place, the place was literally deserted. The optimistic can say that they have the place all to themselves.

This is an interactive info booth. But it was totally useless as the sun was so intense, the glare took out everything.

This is how it looked like. Over the centuries, the temple fell into ruins. The English Romantic poet Lord Byron (1788 - 1824) made things worst by engraving his name into the marble and inspired generations of vandals ever since.

IMG_6343-Edit

It is literally at the tip of the Peninsular with the temple surrounded by the sea on 3 sides. The most apt place for the Temple of the Seafood King.

Due to the rampant vandalism and the fact that things my fall and mash up tourist, the ruins was cordoned off. And with all historic sites and museum, they have someone to jaga the place.

This is the genius they hired. And that little tree is the only source of shade around the entire ruin. Without it, this dude will die from exposure.

IMG_6341-Edit
just me and my tree
nobody understands us

IMG_0287-Edit
oy! no touching!

Shuyi had a go with the tree.

Me too!

IMG_6443-Edit

After we were done with the ruins, we still have quite a fair bit of time left. So says the signboard.

"you have quite a bit of time left" so says the sign

We saw some sort of beach further down the road and decided to chill for a bit before we head back. There is really nothing else to do there.

IMG_6313-Edit

The road there looks quite uninviting.

IMG_0305-Edit

The beach was deserted (almost). The resort there was unmanned which left the beach chairs free for all.

I saw the cutest baby enjoying the late afternoon sun and seek permission to shoot her.

I ended the shoot with a pat on the head. She is so cute.

IMG_0324-Edit
1. stop looking at my ass
2. stop looking at the topless sunbather
3. look at the chubby baby

IMG_6469-Edit

We lazed on beach chair and had some snacks. Thing got outta hand and we had a Canon shootout.

Shuyi was a sore loser

IMG_6484-Edit

And she served me with a fierce Madonna-vogue-strike-a-pose-there's-nothing-to it pose.

IMG_6488-Edit
vogue! vogue! vogue!

The sun was setting and we had to head back.

IMG_6500-Edit

Shuyi was thrashing her feet about in the water when she got stung (luckily only slightly) by the sea urchin hanging by the jetty. I should've split them open and ate them. They are like $30 a pop ok!

Shuyi decided to take a nap while waiting for the bus.

IMG_6534-Edit
em... dear, you can wake up now

IMG_6536-Edit
wish you were here!
we were so bored here.

IMG_6549-Edit

We headed back for dinner and wandered around to find the cheapest souvenir around.

IMG_6551-Edit

Sorry for the terrible pic but this is the last shot I did before I passed out from the ominous smell coming from this man and his 3 dogs. The man was in his trekking attire and from the smell of it, he and his 3 companions have walked from Malaysia to Greece, non-stop. I kid you not.

IMG_0383-Edit
master, we're dying. stop walking!

We decided to pay for some Internet as shuyi has to check her company mail and I HAVE to read my manga.

:O)
