10 Oct: Athens

The hotel staff at the reception gave shuyi a stalk of flower when we check in. I think because this is our honeymoon or something.

While shuyi fell into coma the night before, I sat down and roughly planned our itinerary for the next few days. Everything thing was not fixed. The only thing that was decided is that we should do Accropolis and the flee market on a Sunday as the flea market only opens on Sundays.

IMG_5756

I've read that if there is only one museum you want to go in Athens, The National Archaeological Museum is it. I only want to go to one museum. So we went there. There was no rush.

We had lunch at Goody's which is the local fastfood joint with a healthy theme. Kinda like Subway in Greek. The base of their propaganda is extra virgin oil which they go on to describe as the holy juice of the Gods: very consistent with the whole Athens story where Athena and Poseidon (海鲜王) fought for the ownership of the city. Athena gave the people olive oil and 海鲜王, the friggin genius gave the people sea water instead of calamari. They laughed in his face and chose Athena and proceed to fry some calamari with olive oil. A practice which carried on till today.

IMG_5761
a picture tells a story: we ate at Goody's at Metro Station Sygou-Fix

I had a chicken burger and shuyi had some sandwich with nothing but feta cheese and tomatoes.

IMG_5766

This is where the real essence of the brand is at: the propaganda. And it works. The food kinda taste better after you get rid of the sin. To be fair to Goody's. they serve pretty tasty stuff. Unlike MacDonalds who tried their hands on these propaganda but proceed to give you really fastfoodish fastfood.

IMG_5768
against animal testing: we don't hurt them, we just eat them.

The night before, other than planning for the trip, I also did the laundry. I did ALL the laundry. All. Everything. I was left with no shirt to wear... I ended up going out in the windbreaker which made me look like a pervert and feel like a sauna.

We dropped by Zara and was happy to find cheap basic tees (like SGD10 a pop). It was getting unbearable I had to find a corner on the street to change. Shuyi caught getting topless on photo which I will not be sharing in order to protect my chastity *blush*.

IMG_9871

I also bought a nice sweater that I cannot bear to buy in Singapore. A good SGD20 bucks cheaper. Singapore's Zara is the most expensive in the world. Any Zara is either the same price of cheaper.

So here we are.

IMG_5779

It's a must to read the rules so that you know what you must do to break them.

IMG_5781
for a famous museum, this is ridiculous

There's nothing much to say about the stuff inside.

This could be Poseidon or Zeus, depending on what he was holding. If it is a trident it's Poseidon. Zeus if it's a lighting bolt.

IMG_5802
this one is Poseidon. for some reason they know

IMG_5829

Look at it and tell me it is not Pink Panther.

IMG_5830
you can't. It IS pink panther!

The Egyptian exhibition consists of a lot of very intricate jewellery. Jewelleries that can compete with Cartier or Bvlgari any day.

They also have the funniest gods.

Tawret was actually featured in the series Lost.

You know about Greece and the Olympics. But do you know that they wrestle naked? That's kinda gay ain't it. What if, for some reason, amidst all the touching and grabbing... ok nevermind.

IMG_5841
history's first piledriver

This was displayed at the toiletries section and it was labelled as 'scraper'. They did not elaborate. I didn't want to know.

IMG_9882

Horse and Jockey of Artemision. One of the more famous works there. I don't know why.

IMG_5843
all i wanted is to have some candy... why am i on a horse?

please don't hurt me, i'm just a lion

A highly pissed off duck

IMG_5851
oui! get your hands off of me!

You can take pictures of the exhibits (most of them)but you can't take pictures with the exhibits. The staff behind was not amused. Moments after this shot, she shrieked at me. I gave her the scream-all-you-wan- bitch-you-can't-do-shit-to-me look and walked away.

IMG_9928
Zeus or Poseidon was airing his pits after he stepped out of the shower (hence the towel)

The oracle has spoken...

There is a guest book by the exit of the museum. I was being honest when i wrote 'boring'. But shuyi, who is always guilty of being too nice, changed it to a highly hypocritical 'simply wonderful'.

Liar.

you can see where zara drew it's inspiration from

IMG_5876

We exited the museum and saw a whole bunch of pigeons outside. Shuyi pulled out the bag of mouldy bread (they don't mind that) she reserved for them and started 'doing her thing'. While she was 'doing her thing', i did mine.

IMG_5894
i love the position of the bird and how it caught the ray of light

The other birds saw free food and decided to fly straight into my direction.

IMG_5892

We decided to go to Delos and thought that we should get a guide book instead of a guide (a wise move, as we would later find out) so we walked around looking for guide books. They have lots of these small shopping centres they call Hondos Centre spotted around. All of them only have toilets on the top floor.

IMG_5908

It was already late afternoon so we just wandered around for some window shopping.

IMG_5909

Baby Grand Hotel.

IMG_9945
one day i'll be really grand~

We saw the smallest Subway joint ever. Do they use toasters instead of ovens?

IMG_9948

We fooled around a bit.

IMG_9957

IMG_9958

and we went looking for food. Fooling around is tiring business.

And we ended up at the same place. The other places we saw feel quite touristy and filled with turkish food.

IMG_5914
wow earrings. you don't ever see that on the wife.

We had the fried seafood platter and a seafood stew: the one with the rice-like thingy. It's made of durum wheat which i did not fancy but yet it tasted pretty good. Maybe we're finding excuses because we like the place.

IMG_5916

IMG_5919

Again, the shot.

I did the whole lemon/salt thing for shuyi and told her to down it in one shot.

IMG_5927
i've done this before. i can do it!

IMG_5935
ah! i can't! i can't!

IMG_5937
bleh!

IMG_5938
that wasn't so bad :O/

After dinner we patrolled the streets again for souvenirs. Shuyi was determined to get the best deal possible in Athens.

IMG_9965

Before the trip, I decided to get a grecian dress for shuyi as a souvenir. This is by far the best we've seen on the trip. But it is crazy expensive for such a simple design and it did not fit shuyi that well.

IMG_9970

Almost wanted to buy one of these wooden posters from the old lady but she was not willing to haggle. Her loss.

IMG_9975

IMG_9979

We walked back to our hotel. We would walk back to the hotel every single night (except the last night where we sneaked up a bus without paying). Easily a 2km march.

We found this kitty locked up in a shop everynight.

IMG_5943
the harness collar is so funny

IMG_5954

We finally got a can to recycle! Plus we found another one near the machine. We pushed the cans in, press green button (anyhow lor) and the machine gave us a 4 cent Carrefour voucher.

IMG_5958
i'm richhhhh!
